Dr. Shelby Blaes

Weekdays (8 a.m. appointments possible). Adolescents and adults.

I completed my Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Florida and my predoctoral internship at the University at Buffalo Department of Psychiatry. I have trained in a wide range of hospital and community-based settings, where I provided psychotherapy and psychological assessments. I also hold a Ph.D. in medical sciences with a specialty in neuroscience from the University of Florida.

During my doctoral studies, I published research focused on understanding the neurobiology between decision making and substance use disorders, as well as the effects of pain on substance use.

I provide diagnostic assessments and psychotherapy to adolescents and adults, with a focus on individuals adjusting to medical conditions, insomnia, substance use disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

My therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and incorporates elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The passion I have for helping patients through difficult moments in their lives guides my clinical work and I strive to provide a safe space where evidence-based practice meets personalized, respectful, and ethical care.
