Psychologist

Dr. Victoria Patterson

Therapy Mondays and Thursdays; Saturday assessment only. Children, adolescents, and adults

I completed my doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and my predoctoral internship at Hamilton Health Sciences (McMaster Children’s Hospital), where I continue to work. I have trained in a wide range of hospital- and community-based settings, including inpatient units, community mental health clinics, and schools. During my doctoral training, I was actively involved in research and teaching, and I have published research on psychological interventions for trauma, psychotic disorders, and substance use.

I provide integrative, evidence-based psychological treatment to children, adolescents, and adults. I have experience with treating trauma-related difficulties (e.g., PTSD), mood and anxiety disorders (e.g., depression, panic disorder), OCD, psychotic disorders, and substance use concerns. I also work with youth and their caregivers to manage disruptive behaviours and emotional dysregulation. I conduct comprehensive assessments with youth and young adults to help them better understand their cognitive and academic strengths and areas of need.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in evidence-based practice and draws primarily from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). I approach my work with an emphasis on transparency, authenticity, and collaboration, and I strive to develop a strong therapeutic alliance that supports meaningful and sustainable change.

My clinical work is informed by both research and practice, with a focus on delivering thoughtful, ethical, and client-centered care.
